When you or a loved one is struggling with a behavioral health condition, finding the right care in a timely manner can feel daunting. With your SchoolCare/Cigna medical plan, you have a full spectrum of behavioral health services that are just a click or call away.

When you need guidance for where to turn, your personalized, easy-to-access support starts by either calling your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or by logging in to myCigna.com where you have numerous behavioral health tools at your fingertips.

Personalized digital guidance on myCigna.com or the app

If you aren’t sure where to start, log into myCigna.com or the app and under the Wellness menu, click on Mental Health Support. This opens a digital assessment tool that offers a short survey to help pinpoint how you are feeling and challenges you are facing so care recommendations and support can be tailored to meet your current needs. This assessment can be re-taken at any time as your needs change.

Once you’ve completed the assessment tool, you will receive recommendations for various options such as:

  • Connecting with free EAP services to help you coordinate care
  • Speaking with a therapist or psychiatrist via video appointment through MDLive
  • Utilizing a text-based therapist or psychiatrist through Talkspace
  • Getting on-demand support with a Headspace Care coach or
  • Finding in-person care through Cigna’s care directory and more

All these options and more are available directly in your myCigna portal, even without taking the assessment. The assessment is simply a tool designed to help you get started if you need assistance. To navigate directly to finding an in-person provider or virtual care, login and click on “Find Care and Costs” and either run a provider search or click on “Talk to a doctor via phone or video” and follow the prompts.

For some examples of how these resources can be used, SchoolCare Group Relations Specialist Jana McCusker recorded a video that shares how to access these these tools and scenarios in which they may be helpful.

Connecting to Care via Employee Assistance Program

To get started, call 1-877-622-4327 or log-in to myCigna and find “Employee Assistance Program” under the “Coverage” menu and click “Chat with Us” and get connected with a licensed, professional EAP counselor via your preferred method. You’ll need to provide your Employer ID, which is “SchoolCare” Your EAP counselor will discuss concerns and help get you connected to the services you need, like a telephonic licensed clinician who can help immediately if necessary.

For less urgent matters, they can recommend quick access to appointments whether it’s in-patient, outpatient or specialty.

Are pain and/or other health conditions affecting your mental health?

If your mental health is being negatively affected by health conditions like chronic pain, obesity, diabetes, vision or dental problems, to name a few, you are not alone. In fact, 92% of adults living with a behavioral health condition also suffer from physical ailments and 12 million U.S. adults with anxiety or depression are also suffering from chronic pain.

But you have no-cost SchoolCare benefits to help, including Hinge Health and Omada.

Hinge Health offers programs to support back and joint pain, pelvic health conditions, and more. Their programs are available to you and your eligible dependents at no cost. Plus, you can complete your customized care plan anywhere, any time. See how Hinge Health can help you and check out this article that address reframing your thoughts around pain to improve your mental health.

Omada Complete is SchoolCare’s newest offering, which extends the diabetes and hypertension prevention program in place since 2019 to include care for people who’ve already been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. Omada’s program uses a science-based approach to help participants manage and even reduce dependency on certain medications, provides one-on-one support, education, diet and exercise tracking through its app, and helps you build healthy routines to fit into your lifestyle.

SchoolCare/Cigna participants and covered dependents ages 18+ are eligible to receive the program at no additional cost if at risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease or living with diabetes or high blood pressure, and are accepted into the program.
